Felix Sturm: Matthew Macklin still has not signed the contract for a rematch – Boxing news
The current World Boxing Association’s Middleweight World Champion of Bosnian descent Felix Sturm has said that the Irish boxer Matthew Macklin has still not signed a contract for their rematch.
The 32-year-old Sturm outpointed the Knife, Matthew Macklin, with a split decision in Germany after 12 brutal rounds of boxing. Sturm scored 116-112, 116-112 and 113-115 to retain his WBA middleweight title but his opponents were not happy with the decision,
as they believed he won the bout.
Therefore, Macklin straightaway asked for a rematch and Sturm also agreed upon it as he knew it was a very close bout.
However, in an interview, he has revealed Macklin’s camp has still not signed for a rematch.
Sturm, who has won 36 of his 39 professional bouts including 15 by the way of a knockout, stated they sent Macklin’s camp a contract but have not received any response as of yet.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “We sent him a contract with much better conditions on the Tuesday after our first fight. But we still haven’t received an answer and we’re quite surprised that it takes them so long to react upon our offer.”
Macklin’s camp desperately wanted a rematch after the results were announced and therefore Sturm is surprised upon not getting any response.
Sturm remarked they were the ones who wanted a rematch but now they are taking so much time to sign a contract.
Sturm remarked, “I mean, he was gunning for the rematch after the fight while still being inside the ring and I said yes. Him and his team strongly asked for a second bout at the post-fight presser and I gave them my word.”
“They missed both of them and called one or two days later to extend the deadline, asking for more time to think about their future moves,” Sturm added.
Let’s see if Macklin’s camp signs the contract as it is certainly going to be another explosive fight for the viewers.
