Felix Sturm: My fists will do the talking and I will defend my gold at all costs – Boxing news
Felix Sturm, the current WBA Super World middleweight champion, in a recent pre-bout press conference shared his thoughts about his upcoming bout. He said that he is ready to enter the ring to defend his gold for the fifth time, adding that his fists will
do all the talking and he will teach Sebastian Zbik the lesson of his life.
Sturm and Zbik are scheduled to take on each other in a 12-round bout on April 13, 2012 and will meet in the ring stretched at Lanxess-Arena situated in Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
The event is being jointly promoted by Universum Box-Promotion and Sturm Box-Promotion. During the short pre-bout meeting, both pugilists put forth their sheer determination to nail the other one.
Felix, will enter his career’s 41st bout and boasts 36 wins, 15 of them via knockout. The most intimidating factor in his resume is the fact that he has successfully defended and retained the WBA World middleweight gold a whopping 11 times.
The 33-year-old German who currently ranks fifth in the world rankings grabbed the WBA super middleweight gold from Giovanni Lorenzo and since then has successfully defended it against Ronald Hearns, Matthew Macklin, and Martin Murray.
Sturm, during the press conference said that he has prepared hard for this bout and will not allow Zbik to overcome or outclass him in anyway. Felix commented, “I’ll let my fists do the talking. I’m sure I will defend my title come Friday night.”
Zbik, who is seriously overshadowed by his fellow countryman’s experience, while expressing his views said, “We have talked enough over the last couple weeks. Now it’s time to fight. I can’t wait to be champion again.”
Zbik has been in a total 31 bouts and emerged victorious in 30. He has nailed just 10 opponents by knockout. The 30-year-old is coming from a majority decision loss to Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, a bout in which he lost his interim WBC middleweight gold.
Sebastian grabbed his interim WBC middleweight gold from Domenico Spada and since then defended it successfully against Emanuele Della Rosa, Domenico Spada, and Jorge Sebastian Heiland.
The odds are clearly in favour of Felix since he has more experience, knockout proficiency, home crowd, and decent win-ratio advantage. The only chance Zbik has is if he comes up with an impressive plan to outwit Strum otherwise he will just be another sparring
bag for the German number one.
