Fell while camping, will I get a scar?

Hey Everyone,

Oh Saturday I went camping and fell and skinned my chin. Its about and inch in size.

I've been cleaning 3 times a day by putting Saline Solution (via-cotton ball) and Polysporn. I'm not covering it, letting the air get to it.

It started last night getting really hard and crusty with a yellow thing on it. I continued to clean it like I usually do by putting the cleaning stuff on the cotton ball and just tapping it lightly against it.. Anyhow this layer of yellow stuff came off and now it looks like it did when I first got it. I'm now frantic... Am I going to get a scar?

People say "Dont pick at sores" but I wasn't picking at it, I was simply cleaning it with a cotton ball.

What else can I do to make sure I don't have this thing on my face forever?!

Please any advice would be so greatly appreciated!

  1. There are creams like coco butter and vitamin E that you can put on the skin to stop it from scarring..well stop the scar from being so big .There is also scar cream you can get from the Chemist

  2. Any wound will leave a scar. The only difference is how the scar will look like. And that depends on your wound healing.

With regards to your wound and the yellow stuff coming off, don;t be frantic. It's ok. It's probably just s scab. With the scab gone, your skin within the wound can grow again.

  3. There is no way to in fact predict whether or not a cut will scar. But the way you described it the cut didn't seem very deep, and try not to pick at it and it most likely won't scar. Don't worry too much.

Although it seems like you are taking good care of your cut so it will not get infected, I would  continue your routine and if it does scar simply purchase a scar lightening cream such as "Mederma".

Also try adding Neosporin to your cleaning routine because that has medicine in it to lessen scarring.

To prevent the scar from being very visible apply SPF so the skin around it doesn't tan making your scar more visible.

    Good luck

  4. Every cut leaves a scar of some sort. Depends on the severity of the injury and your own healing ability and skin type. You will have a scar or some sort no matter what your do.

  5. It depends how deep the scar is if its not to deep it sould dissepear withing a few weeks.

  6. Go to the doctor and ask for a prescription for Silvadene. It's a topical ointment used to prevent fungal and bacterial infections in burns. I had a bad burn on my leg and after using the ointment, had no trace of a scar. Your doctor can tell you if it can be used on your face wound - I don't see why it wouldn't be. Good luck!

  7. A scar is no big. Just care for the wound properly by using an antiseptic and covering it. You might want a bandage to put on the wound, helps prevent infection.

  8. Some people I know swear by Bio Oil, but personally I'm not sure about that.

I would personally leave it once clean.  The layer of yellow stuff is the protein the skin makes to heal itself crusted up - it's basically a sign that it's healing.  If it comes back, don't clean it again, just leave it.

You've done pretty well as far as I can tell.  Can't promise you won't get a scar but in my (decidedly not a medical professional) opinion you couldn't have done much better.

  9. sounds like it might bee infected.  There's really no way to tell wether it will scar or not over the internet.  That ddepends on how deep it is and how long it lasts.  I wouldn't worry too much, you seem to be taking care of it Very well.  Unless it starts to swell and be painful (not just painful like a scratch) just keep doing what you're doing.  Watch out for infections.  Good luck.

  10. buy some neosporin you can buy it at walmart it will help it heel and make the scar less vissible if any scar occurs if it starts getting a crusty like skin dont pick at it because you will get a scar
