He banged his head at the face of the Potters defender, but got away with it unpunished, as match referee, Mark Halsey failed to spot
it.
Furthermore, the 25-year old was involved in physical battles time and again with Shawcross from set pieces. However, he somehow managed to avoid going into the referee’s book when he could have easily been sent off.
Despite escaping punishment during the match, the Football Association is likely to take a punitive measure against the Evertonian. A three-match suspension coupled with a hefty fine seems to be the likely course taken by the governing body of football in
the country.
Nonetheless, the forward has admitted to his wrongdoings and issued a formal apology to Shawcross.
He revealed that the heat of the moment forced him to relinquish hold on his patience, as the defender kept on pushing him and tugged his shirt from corner kicks.
“I apologise completely to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Shawcross-c31996, my teammates and to our fans at the game,” he told the reporters.
“There was a lot of pushing and pulling going on inside the Stoke penalty area and I didn't feel I was getting any protection from the officials. Nevertheless I know I shouldn't have done what I did.”
“I have also apologised to the manager and the staff. I have no excuses… I lost my temper, which was unprofessional of me.”
