Although at first the injury seemed to be of mild nature, later scans revealed that the midfielder tore a muscle near his knee, and will require some medical attention before returning to action.
Fortunately for Everton, the predicament came during the international break, which means that the 24-year old could miss only a game or two for the Toffees, once the break winds up.
Despite his fitness problem, the midfielder has joined the Belgium squad for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Serbia-c3002.
However, it is highly unlikely that he will feature in any of them.
The Belgian Football Association issued a statement on their official website, which read: “Fellaini suffered a small tear at the juncture of muscle and tendon in the knee. The injury was revealed during a scan.”
“Fellaini was injured last Saturday during the match between his club Everton and Wigan Athletic. He will be out three weeks.”
“It has been agreed with his club Everton FC he will rehabilitate in Belgium during this period.”
Everton will be keeping their fingers crossed for the midfielder to complete his recovery well in time to feature in their eagerly anticipated Merseyside derby later this month.
The Belgium footballer holds the central position in the team currently, and has masterminded the club’s sparkling start to the campaign.
He netted a goal on the opening day of the season at Goodison Park to help them inflict a shock 1-0 defeat at Manchester United. He backed it up with another match winning performance against Aston Villa, and has been one of the star performers in the preliminary
stages of the ongoing season.
