Fellow Atheists: If we created an R&S list of common myths about Atheists, what would you add to it?

we are only atheist so that we can do what ever we want because there is no god to punish us.

That we "believe in science", like it's a faith choice.

That we are all evolutionists and that we are all big bang theorists.

That just because we know God did not create the Earth, that we have all the answers as to what really happened.  

That we will be converted to Christianity if they tell us that we are going to go someplace of eternal torment that we don't believe in after we die.

That it is better to believe in God "Just in case" and give him lip service prayers rather than being true to our selves and those around us.

That many of us have never been true Christians

That we abuse them here on R&s

That we are trying to take away their right to worship their God.

That we will all recant on our deathbed.

That there are no Atheists in foxholes

That deep down, we really believe in their God

Atheists are a myth, nobody has ever scientifically proven their existence therefore according to the beliefs of many people here if it can't be proven to exist it must not.  Until someone shows the same kind of proof that many people demand of God's existence then it's safe to say that atheists are like mermaids and the tooth fairy.

Edit:  I'm not suggesting that you don't exist I'm suggesting that you are not an atheist and that they don't exist unless you can prove scientifically that you are one.  Just making the claim to be an atheist isn't proof especially considering it isn't the sort of proof you'd ever accept.

I don't give any thought to what you are, I'm just saying that if you are really an atheist prove it with the same kind of scientific evidence that many people want of God's existence.  I've heard it said here that since God can't be scientifically proven to exist then He is a myth.   I assume that people who agree with that feel the same way about anything that can't be proven to exist, including atheists.

LOU CYPHER:  you didn't offer any proof atheists exist but claimed you could.  The next time a Christian says he can prove God exists but refuses to will you believe him?

EDIT: I present myself as an example of both. I know plenty of atheists on here who I disagree strongly with on a number of points, and I am strongly religious. Just not theistically speaking.

Ogo Pogo, your god does NOT exist because there is NO evidence to support the notion that invisible sky magicians have ever taken an interest in human, planetary or universal affairs.

I, on the other hand, DO exist and through this medium you can question me about anything including whether or not I believe in invisible sky critters.

No one is able to question your ‘god’ thingie except through their imagination … hence Bush saying ‘god’ told him to invade Iraq.

Thumbs down doesn’t prove you touched a nerve – it means that people reckon you’re wrong and that is all.

Atheists have a completely different temperament and mind-set to theists cos we don’t need the presence of invisible sky magicians to lend credence to our existence; we thrive on taking responsibility for ALL our own actions.

You really need to stay away from logic – it is NOT one of your strong points.

That we believe that the argument that Christians use to 'prove' that there's no such thing as an atheist also 'proves' that all Christians are agnostics.

-- We've never read the Bible (or Koran, Book of Mormon, Bhagavad Gita, etc.).

-- We've never gone to church (temple, mosque...)

-- We've never been believers, or have otherwise been exposed to religious belief.

-- We hate Christians (or other believers).

-- We have no morals.  We only avoid robbing, killing, raping, etc. because it's against the law.  Otherwise, we would do these things without a twinge of ill conscience.

-- We're self-centered opportunists.

-- We hate God.

-- We are angry at God, and/or the church, and that's why we became atheists.

-- "Atheist" is spelled "a-t-h-i-e-s-t."

--  We are somehow emotionally stunted by our atheism.  We don't feel love as intensly as believers.

-- Atheism takes all the meaning out of life.

-- Atheists are rich, elitist intellectuals who have nothing in common with the average Joe/ Jane.

A particularly annoying one for me is the myth that if the world became atheist all morals would go out of the window.

When in fact atheist people generally have a much more moral outlook with regard to issues concerning the planet and the real world, which affect real people and not the imaginary crime of sin, which affects no one except the sensibilities of some crazy conservative bigots.

The more atheistic the country in general the more peaceful and well educated the population are.

@ Ogo Pogo, Your point is beyond infantile, I was going to attempt to explain how to show someone's beliefs but I think you are just a troll, I don't think you really care and I don't think you are worth my time.
