Question:

Felons on parole visiting Canada for a day?

My husband, our children and myself are going to Niagara Falls in the morning, and are considering traveling over to the Canadian side of the falls. My concern is, my husband is on felony parole and his parole officer would not call him back after he left several messages asking him to call us to see if he could go over the border for the day. Will he get in trouble if we attempt to cross the border? I do not want him to get arrested or something.

  1. Without a letter from your state attorney general you can be refused entry into Canada

--It works the same way for Canadians with records entering the US

  2. In you have ever been convicted of a criminal offence this includes a DUI you are considered inadmissible to Canada. He most likely will get turned away at the border.

  3. Anyone with a criminal record (including even misdemeanors or Driving While Impaired (DWI)) charges may be barred from entering Canada and must qualify for a special waiver well in advance of any planned travel for further processing, which may take some time.

Also, and this is more important, your husband must contact his parole officer for permission to leave the country.
