Question:

Felt - Flannel Board Pieces - How do you color them?

I am in the process of making a flannel board for my daycare. I am having a difficult time coloring on the pieces of flannel (like the stripes on a zebra). I was using an extra-fine tip sharpie - but it was pulling the material apart. In desperation I used a dry erase marker - but the color would bleed quite a bit. Do they make special markers for this or paint? Thanks for your help!

  1. This is what I do for my felt board...

Use cardstock or reg copy paper to color your pictures and laminate.  Then place a piece of velcro on the back and voila it sticks!

  2. cut stripes out of black flannel and glue them on -that's the best way.  You could also try clothing paint - they sell those in the craft section at any store in tiny little bottles.

  3. You know that puffy paint? The kind you can put on shirts, you could try that stuff.

  4. i believe they do make special markers for this specific reason i would try googling it and maybe on the side something would come up

  5. Fabric markers.

I often print them off the computer colored and laminate.  Then add felt, sand paper, or velcro to the back. They work just as well!

  6. You could try to cut out black felt to glue over the white felt. I should be easy since zebra stripes don't have a straight pattern. Good Luck
