  1. You should remove her, i could go into detail but just click the link below!!

(your answer is in point 9- but the whole thing's pretty useful!)

    Hope this helps x

  2. well after your fish mate and the female lays the eggs take the female out and it's the male who takes care of the eggs till they hatch and then after a certain amount of time you need to separate every single male good luck figuring out which is a male!

  3. You do know that bettas aren't livebearers right and that the female lays eggs that the male then fertilizes and takes care of?  Without a male a female will not have viable eggs and she doesn't get pregnant, ever.  If she is carrying eggs and there is no male arounds, they will simply be reabsorbed into her body.

Both parents will eat the babies if left in with them and the female may even start to gobble up eggs before the male has a chance to bring them to his bubblenest.  Once the fry are free swimming they don't need dad around anymore and he should be removed too otherwise he might try a fry snack.

  4. Remove the female betta after she is depleted of eggs and let the male betta tend the nest and eggs.  In a few days the babies will have absorbed their egg sacks and will need to be fed. Have you figured out what you are going to feed them?  Betta babies start out very small.  About half the size of baby guppies.  Microworms are the easiest food to grow for baby bettas but you may have trouble finding someone near you who has them.  You can buy a microworm culture off of eBay but you should find a Buy It Now auction so the seller will ship to you immediately.  Delivery may take a few days and you will need to start feeding the babies as soon as you receive the microworms.  Microworms are not actual worms but nematodes and they have a bit of a vinegar smell but they are very nutritious for baby fish with amino acids and proteins.

You can also use hard boiled egg yolk to feed the babies if you can't get the microworms in time.  Use only a small amount of the hard boiled egg yolk, mashed and placed in a cloth hankerchief or fine mesh scarf or nylon panty hose material and hang it near the babies.  Too much egg yolk can easily dirty up the tank so you may have to do partial water changes after each feeding to remove the excess egg yolk.

All this activity may worry the father betta who may decide to eat the babies to protect them from you so you will need to remove the father soon after all the babies have learned to eat your food.  Once the babies are free swimming, they won't need the bubble nest any more so the father's work is done.   After a week, the babies should be able to eat frozen baby brine shrimp and a few days after that you can start giving them powdered flake fish food.  Keep giving them microworms, egg yolk and baby brine shrimp because the smallest babies will need food to eat and a variety of food will help all the babies grow faster.

  5. Your female betta will only lay eggs if you breed her with a male and then you need to leave the male in the tank to tend the eggs and babies, not the female.  You have to remove a female betta right after she lays her eggs or the male may injure her in his zeal to protect the eggs.  Females are usually quite weak and exhausted and often injured after mating and laying eggs.

Please don't breed your betta without doing a LOT of research first.  It's a very tricky process and can seriously injure one or both bettas if not done correctly.

  6. Your female may have babies? Wow!

Consider yourself lucky - I have heard that his is hard to do considering the male and female should not be in the same tank unless only for breeding.

    Here is what I found:

This site states the female must be removed as soon as all of her eggs are released, and the male must be removed as soon as they are free swimming.

  7. Bettas are egglayers, so she won't have babies.  She must be with a male to lay eggs, then removed or the male will kill her.  The male will care for the eggs, and the fry for a short time, but should be removed when they are free swimming.

  8. females will try to kill them and males will take care of them for about 72 hours...you should probably put the babies in a smaller tank where you can clean the water easier and they do have to have very clean water..
