Question:

Female Beta with white spots :(?

What is wrong with her? I added her to a Male beta tank for breeding and she was fine. They didn't fight that much he doesn't really nip at her and he is perfectly healthy, but she looks like there are white spots growing on her. I just recently moved her to a new tank but I don't think she will make it.

Before I get a new one I want to know what is wrong with this one. Any ideas?

  1. your presumption is correct. She has obviously been bitten by the male and her sores got fungusy. You will want to put her in a hospital tank with 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt (NOT TABLE SALT) per gallon, and increase the water temperature slowly to 80 degrees F.

Make sure to change her water often so she has clean, fresh water to clean her wounds.

  2. She has "ick". Is it likely she will die, depending how long she has had it or how bad it is..

You should isolate her and treat her water with something from the pet store like "rid-ick" or something similiar. Hope she will make it.

  3. You got ick from the pet store. Its dangers but not alwas. Take her out into a smal contaner and add salt also clean out the tank (and if you can get some ick medicine pour in tank and stop filter for at least 1 day to let it settle).

  4. if the white spots look like grains of salt she has ick if you can raise the tank temp up to 85 degs this will kill the ick if you cant get some ick medication and follow the directions on the bottle and she will pull out of it ok

if the white spots are bigger than a grain of salt then she has developed a fungus infection probley at areas where the male did pick at her for this get an anti fungal medication and again she should be fine
