Would one female be okay by herself in a 55 gallon community tank? (with guppies, danios, gouramis, and a plecostomus)

  1. IT SHOULD OK. THEY ARE NOT AS AGGRESSIVE THAN AFRICAIN CICHLIDS

  2. It depends.  My husband and I actually kept one Female Kirbensis with our guppies, platies, neons, tetras, cory cats, and pleco and she did just fine.  They are actually one of the most non agressive cichlids I know of.  The reason I say it depends though is if you have breed her before or not.  Femail Kribensis seem to get a little more agressive and territorial after they have been breed.  So I would be careful if she has breed before.  If she has put her alone in a completely new enviroment/arrangement for a while before you place her in with the other fish.  If she hasn't been breed before than she will probably be just fine.  Just watch things closely for a while after to make sure everyone is getting along.  Good Luck!  Hope that helped.

The other thing is make sure she is the only Kribensis in there. If there is more than one that will only be trouble!

Kribensis are probably one of my favorite fish :)

  3. I'm sure at some point, you're get the local or daily idiots that will see this is a cichlid, and start spouting off some chit about how they are aggressive, monsters, territorial and blah blah blah.  Let's just cut that chit out now.

Kribs are slightly milder for Africans, and temperment should not be an issue in a 55, combine that with you're talking about a female too.  Aggression would be something to think about if this were a mating pair though.

I don't see any issues with this, other then the community fish types you've listed, all would prefer a lower PH and hardness, however, adaptation of either the community or the Krib to different parameters shouldn't be overly difficult.  All the others minus the pleco should stay up higher in the tank then the Kribs should on top of it all too.  I don't see any issues with this other then make sure you acclimate your Krib a long time if this isn't true African rift lake parameters.
