Female Pekin ducks, when is it safe to turn loose with male Pekins

I am raising 12 Peking ducklings now 5 weeks old. When can I turn them loose with two 3 year old male Pekin ducks who have the run of the yard.

  1. If they are fully feathered out, you can let them out with the others, but chances are the adult males are going to chase them and try to beat them up. Adult ducks usually don't accept other ducks into their flock without alot of work. You need to put them in their pen and put up some kind of partition so they can see each other, but not touch each other. Then put the adults on one side during the night and the babies on the other. Do this for a few weeks and they might get used to each other.


  2. They get along better when they mature. You can turn them loose with the males at 2.5 months old. You should since there old enuff to be outside  put them in a pen close to the 2 males so they can get use to oneanother. Then when they are 2-3 monthsd old turn them loose.

    The males may try to mate them or fight them. Normal behavior. It shouldnt be too bad since the new ducks are females. Males and males will fight constintly a lot if they arnt grown up together. Make sure that you have doghouses or a homemade wooden nest boxed
