Female Russian players dominate the world of tennis
Female Russian tennis players seem to be widespread across the professional world of tennis. Not only are they extremely noticeable because of their fantastic game of tennis but also engaged in the headlines for their gorgeous appearances. Out of the top thirty female tennis players in the world, almost one-third of them are Russian, which is an impressive feat for the country itself.
Just recently, it was Russia’s Vera Zvonareva who reached the finals of the Wimbledon Championships 2010. Even though she lost to the world number one Serena Williams from America, this amazing Russian tennis player gave a wonderful performance throughout the tournament. She stayed at the world number five rank and is currently ranked as the number ninth player in the world. After watching Vera play, it is expected that Zvonareva will soon climb higher up in these rankings.
Maria Sharapova is one name that has made it to the top. This tennis star has made an exceptional career for herself and her passion and talent for the game has enabled her to excel in this competitive sport. She is a former number one in tennis rankings and has won three Grand Slams. Along with her success in tennis, she has signed many contracts with brands like Nike, Prince and Canon and is also the face of many modeling campaigns. In both 2005 and 2008, she was the most searched for athlete on the internet search engine ‘Yahoo!’ Sharapova has become the pride of Russia in professional tennis and deserves all the attention that she gets.
Anna Kournikova is yet another professional tennis player who has made Russia proud. This sensational Russian, along with being a spectacular tennis player is also a model. Her stunning features are better than most models out there. Her name was once the most searched string on the internet search engine Google. In tennis, Kournikova’s specialty has been her doubles play for which she has at times been ranked as the number one player in the world.
Russian professional tennis players have greatness written all over them and another Russian who is a witness to this greatness is Elena Dementieva. She has won two Olympic Gold medals and has reached the finals of the 2004 French Open and 2004 U.S. Open. Her career high ranking has been recorded as the world number three. Presently, she is ranked as the world number six and the number one in Russia. With so much talent coming from Russia alone, being the number one there is a big achievement.

Anna Chakvetadze, the young Russian professional tennis player is definitely a rising star in the world of tennis. Her highest career-ranking has been recorded at number five in the world and even though her rankings have recently gone down, there is undoubtedly great potential in this young tennis player.
Olga Puchkova is another young Russian professional tennis player who is on her way to accomplish a brilliant career in the sport. Her rankings may not be as high as the others as yet, but her performances show that it is quite likely that she will soon make her way to the top.
Along with Chakvetadze and Puchkova, Maria Kirilenko is another Russian who is gradually making her way up in the world of tennis. Her rankings have gone up to 18 in 2008 when she was only seventeen. Thus, the future looks bright for this young Russian tennis star.
One cannot argue with the fact that female tennis is being dominated by Russian players. Women from other countries need to stand up to this Russian onslaught in order to bring some competition from other countries as well.
