  1. I would get a girl and girl or a boy and boy! Just so they won't have babies! But if you want them to have babies then get a girl and boy! Good luck!

  2. I wouldn't suggest ever caging two male avian species together. Reason is when adults they fight and can cause mayor damage to one another or even kill.

Caging a male and female together means the male must like the female or he often will pick on her. Then if he does like her, during adult hood when he becomes hormonal is likely they will breed if they are bonded.

Generally two females caged together when young do fine together. Buy a larger cage for two bird than you would one, but make sure the cage is sized for your size birds and the cage bar spacing is correct  so no heads can get caught and the bird can't get out.

Provide ateast three perchs Not Dowels, but one wood, one a Sandy brand perch and a rope perch.

Plus toys, hanging toys and foot toys.

  3. Well if you plan on having babies then a male and a female. Just know that if you try to make money off breeding parakeets you probably will lose more money if you only buy two birds.

A female and female would be compatible they shouldn't fight or anything but can be skitish during the breeding season because they want to mate.

A male and male would also be about the same as a Females during the breeding season otherwise they would be okay.

Parakeets are extremely messy and when I was breeding them ( I had 80) I took at least 2 to 3 hours daily cleaning the nesting boxes and what not. THEY ARE EXTREMELY NOISY! Two wouldn't be so bad it's just they like to start singing around 2 or 3 in the morning.

Look into other animal options as well! Parakeets are so fun when you have them trained You can train them to do many things and it would be easy with 2. Male or Female it wouldn't make a difference on how cool they are! Parakeets are great.

  4. Male and Female-so that way they can (not guaranteed) have chicks.

    Male: Blue on nose

    Female: Pink on nose.

    =)

  5. I think you ought to go with male-male.

Females can have some serious attitude, and often will fight with each other (majorly) or pick on the males, which are generally more submissive.  This doesn't apply as a rule to every budgie, due to personality differences, but it's a pretty darn safe bet.  Plus, if you get a male-female, once they're sexually mature they might want to "fool around."  Unless you want babies, which will be an ordeal for you if you're a first-time budgie owner, you'll have to separate them.  Females and males kept together also can get real ornery in mating season - bird hormones are so similar to teenage ones.  :-)

Two males can get along very well, provided you get them both as babies.  You can tell how old they are by the color of their irises and the bands on their crowns.  Babies have very dark eyes, and their head bands start right above the beak.

    Good luck with the parakeets!
