Question:

Female dog being mean after getting fixed ?

I just had my two female dogs get fixed yesterday and my black dog is acting friendly to both of my other dogs, but the other white dog who got fixed, is acting very aggressive to the other dog who got fixed. Before they both got fixed they were inseparable. My father thinks that maybe when they both woke up at the vets they were by each other, and that the white dog thinks the black dog caused this pain, or is it that she just doesn`t want to be around other dogs, because she is friendly with humans.

  1. If your vet did not give you pain meds to use on her at home, then she has every right to be nasty. You would be, too! Give her several more days and make everyone leave her alone until she is her old self.

  2. I have read some where that males getting neutered makes them less aggressive but when females get spayed it can take the opposite effect but that may not be the case here, maybe after her pain subsides she will be back to her normal self.

  3. For a few days after My dog was fixed, She would just lay there quietly, looking at Me like I was Hitler.

  4. It's probably pain poor thing! Give her space on her own until she recovers and get some pain relief, animals don't just get over things they have feelings too and she is just warning the others of that fact. Give her time.

  5. If you had surgery only the previous day, I think you'd not be at your most affible eh.  She's probably feeling sore at best so give it time.  Separate them if necessary for the time being until the full effects of the anaesthetic wears off and also any discomfort.  Have you not felt 'threatened' when you hurt?

If you notice a difference in their relationship long-term, there are hormone treatments that can be given, to redress the hormonal change made by spaying, which can affect temperament.

  6. She just had surgery yesterday- I'd be cranky too- give her some time, watch them carefully.

  7. They all recover at different rates, and some can handle pain better, obviously your black dog is handling it better.

Give the white one time to recover from the operation and l'm sure they will be back to best friends.

Spaying doesn't alter their personality, but having a vet cut you open and then stitch you back up can cause them a little distress for a few days.

Just give her time to heal and recover from her op, then she'll be back to normal.

  8. Get in touch with your vet and explain the problem.

It may be that your dog is feeling under the weather and is just being a bit cranky, but it could be that she has the start of an infection from the operation and is really not well.   Get your vet to give you an expert opinion just to be on the safe side.

  9. when my dog got fixed, she just needed to lay down and rest for a few days. she had never bitten anyone before, but when someone tried to move her while she was laying down, she became aggressive. after a few days she was back to normal. just give it time.

  10. you'd be cranky too - you go to the vets and your people LEAVE YOU THERE!!  Then it all goes dark, you wake up with a really sore tummy and you have no idea why!

your people come back, that's great and you're happy but you still feel grotty and you have no idea why or what's happened and it hurts.  then the other dogs seem to think you should be fine and you still feel pants.  She seems ok but you feel awful.

Remember you have no idea what has happened

I'd be grumpy and confused, wouldn't you?

just treat her gently and keep her calm, lots of TLC and she'll be fine.

different animals (and people!) respond to drugs differently so she may be feeling really grotty still whereas the other one may be feeling fine.

    lots of TLC, poor thing

    good luck
