A friend of mine is supposed to take off to boot camp in a month and a half. she just recently found out that she is pregnant. She's been to scared to tell her recruiter although I told her she needs to hurry up and let him know in advance (just my opinion) , She has been considering an abortion (WHICH BY THE WAY I AM 100% AGAINST IT!) but she thinks she'll just get the abortion and head off to boot camp. I'm trying to tell her that is probably isn't going to be that easy.... at least I wouldn't think so... what do you guys think?

and just FYI--- I do not condone abortions at all, this is a general question, not reflecting my beliefs of opinions. thank you

  1. at boot camp they will do a physical and a pregnancy test anyway when she first get there. If she choses to get an abortion, she should ba able to go within a week time...its up to her...

  2. Her recruiter is her chain of command and she needs to talk to them right away.  She can delay her ship date and have the baby if need be (medical waiver) but she needs to let them know right away.

  3. well the military dont do abortions unless its gonna kill the mother, other than that. Yea she should just have the child and than join afterwards. Yes if she did do that she would have to give up custody but could regain it. ONLY if the person she gave it up to would be willing to do so. I have seen some that were like I'm not giving the child or children back. So it would need to be someone that they can REALLY trust.

  4. Sounds like she's going to be one of THOSE women...ones who get preggers coincidentally RIGHT before deploying...then magically "miscarry" the baby right after the group she was supposed to go with deploys. So far, I'm 100% against her joining at all.

If she has an abortion, that's her choice. However, like I said, it seems like she's a bit...loose...and if that's the case, she shouldn't be a burden to the military like that.

  5. She needs to talk to her recruitment officer asap and if she's going to have an abortion she will ned to do this asap also. She will be able to have an abortion in less than a week and she should be fine after 2 weeks.

She needs to decided wat she's going to do and let them know!

  6. if she is going to get an abortion, she needs to so now, and inform the recruiter that she will need to go back to meps to change the date that she leaves for personal reasons. if he asks anymore than that...he's wrong.

now, if she choses to have the child, she will have to wait till 3 months after birth to sign back (not recommended though...she should wait at least a year to let her body heal....first hand experience.)

she also NEEDS to inform the recruiter ASAP because if she doesn't, she will be wasting his time when she goes back to meps for final swear in and out processing.

  7. Abortion or not she needs to tell her recruiter. An abortion is a serious medical procedure and can cause complications, infections and other problems. (even when done by a qualified medical person)

What if she gets doing something physical and starts to bleed?

For health reasons only she should be honest.

It will be worse if she gets to boot camp pregnant and they find out there. They do a pregnancy test the first day you get there  before you start trainingg. Then they send you home.

She can still join after she has the baby, if she decides to keep him/her.

(By the way I am against abortions, but I am trying to be non-judgemental...and am trying to consider her overall health)

  8. Abortions are hard on the body.  She will need at least a week if not 2 weeks to recover, plus who knows the mental effects this will have.  Tell her to tell her recruiter so they can adjust her date.
