I had two male rabitts and one died after we had him fixed so Im not doing that again and the other had cancer, now I am considering getting a female but i dont know anything about female rabbits. Do they get blood everywhere when they get their period?

I would like a bunny that actually comes to me when i call him(my last two bunnies did that). But with the males I had they peed all over the place and it smelled bad...and the carpet was ruined.

Is there anything I should be careful with when i pick out a female bunny??

  1. just do inni minni when you are at the shop. lol

  2. If you don't spay it, a female will pee all over your carpet just like an unneutered male does.  They are actually a lot MORE territorial and aggressive than males, most of the time.  They do not get their 'period', females ovulate on demand and don't come into 'heat' like some other animals do.  If you don't spay a female, 85% of them die of reproductive cancer before the age of 5.  A spayed female, provided proper care, lives 10 years+.  Females also have a burrowing instinct when not spayed, and will 'dig' at your carpet and anything else that's an attractive texture.  Also, if not spayed, they will go through 'false pregnancies', where they pull out their fur to make a nest, and get even grouchier and more aggressive than the rest of the time- many will even chase you.  In my not-insignificant experience, a neutered male makes the best pet, followed by a spayed female, then an intact male, and last of all an intact female.  If you choose an experienced rabbit vet who knows that rabbits can not use the same anesthesia, etc. as cats and dogs, and that they need different care and drugs post-op, any sort of complication from a spay or neuter is extremely, extremely rare.  I've had over 50 rabbits altered and NO problems at all with any of them.

  3. well to calm you down a bit, female rabbits dont have periods.but one thing you definitley need is to get your rabbit fixed so it doesnt have babies.so no it wont bleed unless its cut,the come when i call you is based on the training YOU give it and the only thing you need to worry about when buying a rabbit is the cost and food, etc.

  4. Typical males - peeing everywhere and smelling.

    Female Rabbits:

    - When a female rabbit reaches sexual maturity, she may begin to view her cage as her potential nesting space and become protective of it. A female rabbit that feels nature urging her to breed can become very testy.

    - Pet rabbit owners are often confused when their formerly sweet bunny rabbit becomes aggressive, grunts, growls, or lunges towards them.  I've heard the story  many, many times.

    - I strongly recommend male rabbits for pet rabbits - males are generally better pets in my experiance.

    -  These are just opinoins and not proved facts. Some people also say it depends on the individual rabbit, not the s*x really although a lot of people swear males are friendlier.

  5. I have 7 rabbits 4 of them are female and 3 are male rabbits don't have periods well at least mine don't all rabbits need other rabbits or they get lonely all my rabbits are sweet and all of them pee and p**p everywhere the males probably pee more cause they mark there territory you need to be careful when you put rabbits together put males together some well fight put to females together they might try to mate they can't mate but it's annoying put male and female together and they well mate theres really not that much deference males mite be a bit sweeter but I love all my rabbits.I hope I helped good luck.

  6. Males make a much nicer pet! Females are usually very grumpy and prefer to be alone! I have had three female rabbits and they have all attacked me when trying to take/replace their food bowl in and outside in my garden/their cage. Males have a much more loving nature (I know after having five males!) and are much nicer company. If you insist, I'd ask a pet-shop ownser of their opinion.

    Good luck!

  7. Hi, no, female rabbits(Does) don't get blood everywhere as they don't have periods, like dogs...  Some people say the Doe comes into 'heat' when she is put with a Male rabbit(Buck) but i find Does are normally always 'in season'. And basically all my Does come to they names! Normally Does DON'T smelly as much as Bucks, as alot of people have them as house pets. The 'downfuls' about Does is that (if not spayed) may, dig, can get false preganceys and some can be nervous, but Dwarf lops(or other friendly breeds) are normally very gentle and cute! Personaly i would read up about breeds you like so you can buy a friendly, cute and loving Doe! Good luck in finding your dream Doe!
