So i have this female parakeet; i've had her for a while, and the thing on top of her nose is brown, so female. But recently, the brown on her nose has been FADING. Its turning white and the brown is like, peeling off, only not really. Im so scared! i think it might be b/c she hasnt been eating her cuttlebone, but im not sure.

Does anyone have anyidea what happening and what i can do?

  1. I have no idea what b/c is but the ceres will fade with age. If shes an old budgie, thats probably what is happening.

If her beak is not overgrown there is no reason she needs to eat the cuttlefish, so I wouldnt worry too much about it.

  2. No, that's normal.  A female's cere is normally only brown and crusty when she's in breeding condition.  When her hormones settle down and she's out of breeding condition, it changes back to mostly white/tan.

  3. I use to have a female parakeet and hers did the same thing. I think its just something that happens as they get older but I would still consult a vet just to be sure. My parakeet is still alive and well but sadly I had to move and give her away but I still receive photos of her. I hope everything turns out ok for you.
