Question:

Female who needs car audio for dummies?

I just purchased and had installed a Pioneer CD player and 4 in-door speakers. All 4 speakers are 6", 2 of them are 3 way, whatever that means. I got a good deal so I just said okay. The problem is, I still have way too much treb. and not enough bass. I am still not completely satisfied with the sound. My car is a 96 blazer so I am not sure what else to do; the sound is better, not quite so AM station sounding as the factory speakers. I don't want too much bass, just a little more so it doesn't sound like a tin can. Any recommendations? Are there speakers in the very back (the hauling area) that should be replaced? Thanks!

  1. You need to add subwoofers and an amp to get the desired sound.  Best place to start is the place that you got a "good deal" and tell them what you told us and see what they recommend.  Come up with a realistic budget and see what they can do for you.

  2. Use this.......

  3. It sounds like the guy that recomended the sound system (radio and 4 speakers), underestimated the sound you were trying to get.  Just from your short description I would have given you a 150 watt 10" sub and amplifier.  I know it sounds like a big deal to get a sub and amp, but basically, you can get a subwoofer to give you bass at $200-250.

Not all subwoofers are made to boom down the block.  150 watts is more than enough to give you a good sound, something that will enhance your sound system and not take over as a bass machine.

Your salesman took your meaning of wanting more sound as your wanting a stronger and more accurate sound, and in a way, he was able to deliver that by giving you a pioneer radio and 4 speakers.  But in my experience, when someone wants to enhance the sound in their car, they want a stronger bass, which changing 4 speakers will never be able to acomplish.

At this point, you are working with a guy.  Go back to him and explain that the sound you are getting is not what you had in mind, but if he could make you a Real Smooth Deal on a Bass Amp and 10" woofer around 150 RMS watts for about $200-250.  That would give you the sound you wanted, new speakers, new radio, and a sound that you will be very satisfied with.
