Question:

Femininity throughout the world?

Cultural definitions of femininity and masculinity vary throughout the world.

In some cultures the men wear what we in Western civilizations would call makeup.

In other cultures neck rings that elongate the neck. This causes permanent damage to the neck bones and muscles and in rare cases leave the female so severely crippled she can only solely rely on her husband or family to take care of her every need.

Some cultures promote curvy women like these http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2005/04/dovegroupL070405_450x250.jpg

as being feminine. Other cultures believe feminine women are thin like this http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/260580/2/istockphoto_260580_confidence.jpg

Those are just some examples of how physical femininity differs throughout the world. There are also several characteristic differences and other things of that nature. But the above examples just graze the iceberg.

Men and women, what are YOUR specific definitions of femininity?

  1. To me personally femininity is a completely different issue from physical attributes, cultural backgrounds or age. As a world traveler I had a great fortune to observe some exceptionally feminine ladies in every culture I'd visited.  All of them exuded serenity of the spirit ( and it is not a religious kind of a serenity either ), it is a complete acceptance of who they are, what they look like and their place in the world at large. As I have been told by many males of all kinds of ethnic and religious backgrounds, that that kind of a glow is irresistible to them. There were also some references to kindness, generosity of spirit and ability to make them feel good about themselves as very important definitions of irresistible femininity, but somehow it had never been about their looks. Sorry to say.

To me personally feminine lady is sure of herself, elegant in anything she wears or does not. She enjoys being a woman and taking care of herself and anyone else who comes along. She is exceptionally sensual , and it shows in the way she walks, talks and moves. And the sexiest thing is that she does not care much of what other people think about that. Very often she does not even know how attractive she is...  A great question, btw!

  2. In Thailand, the men are ****** up in the head.   Most get s*x changes before they turn into adults.  Some hide the fact they're a guy and act like a girl.  The very small minority get eaten up within an instance.  In turn it drives the women bat-**** crazy.  They have basically no-one they're attracted to.  And trust me, the absolutely love American men.  I got dragged by a group of girls into a few bars while I was there.  At same time they are extremely catty.  They would physically fight over us.

So yes in some cultures it's considered normal for men to act this way.  I won't, ever.

And to answer a few of your question's,  My basic definition of femininity is defined in society.  Any question's consult the official man-laws.

  3. Not hating men.

  4. My definition of femininity is xx chromosomes.

  5. Exactly, "femininity" and "masculinity" are man-made constructs that differ between cultures and over time.

They are merely stereotypes in the perceiver's own mind.

    And they bore me.

  6. Femininity or masculinity, is a social cultural value.  How we act dress and behave is based by which cultural we are raised in.  To me it has no set definition, when looked at as a human standard.

There are several tribes in Africa, that the women cut there low lip and insert a clay disk.  Over time she will stretch it out...the larger the disk.  The more desirable this woman is, the more valuable she is to her future husband and father, and the more cows must be traded for her for marriage.

China had/has a foot fetish.  A woman should have tiny feet.  Very tiny.  For a long time they practice foot binding starting at a very young age they would fold the foot inward, to make it smaller.  So women are still alive that have had this done, thought I dont believe its continued today.
