What I also really want to know is: who is the greatest feminist icon so far in the 21st C?

What about Cherie Blair - a woman once married to one of the most powerful men in the world who carried on earning more than him and remained one of the top judges in the British legal system?

Angela Merkel? President of Germany who has done wonders for a country dominated with male politicans?

And away from politics... Madonna? Carrying on into her 50s in the front of pop music whilst using her success to help people in Africa?

Or even every woman in the world?! You decide!

  1. In my opinion yes, feminist icons still exist, how could they not?  but they are not as relevant or impactful today simply do to the social status of women in the 21st century compared to the 20th.

the 20th century was generaly prejudice against women. in 1900 women couldnt vote and didnt work. it wasnt socialy acceptable for women to show off their arms or ankles or to voice their oppinions amongst men. The 1900s were represive, but women didnt let it stay that way. By the end of the 20th century women could vote and made up 1/3 of the british work force. Flappers of the 1920s wore sleevless dresses up to their knees and they did more than just talk with men, they drank with them and went out with them too.

These advancements were made thanks to the brave women who spoke out against social standards and stood up for their rights. They were reblious and they were brave.

Now in the 21st century it is only expected that a woman would go to collage after high school and a career after that. It is nothing astonding that your mother can vote, in no way shocking that your sister leaves the house on a hot day wearing shorts. There are still women who fight sexism, still women brecking into new feilds, but so much has already been done. Yes there are still feminist heros, but very few radical ones; its not needed. Having a radical feminist today would be like having a black person not give up their seat on the bus. No one expects that you would move because your black (not to say that racism doent exist).

i hope i made a point and didnt get too wordy. as for the greatest feminist of the 21st century, i dont really have an opinion (i kinda idolise alot of women from the 20th haha).

well, good question. have an awsome day
