Question:

Feminists: Could it be helpful for feminist goals if guys started to wear skirts and dresses some day?

First of all, I think it is a matter of equal rights if both genders could wear pants and skirts as well and dress whatever their feeling may ask for.

Moreover guys wearing skirts or dresses would be less macho and much more understanding of women´s needs.

And couldn´t that have an impact on gender roles in partnership and society in general?

  1. Men should wear what they feel comfortable in, and that goes for women too.

  2. It would have no effect on feminist goals at all, because what men wear is not a feminist issue.

It may have some impact on men's thinking, although in societies where men do not wear trousers but instead wear robes, sarongs, lava lava, kilts and similar garments, sexism continues to exist in more or less ways than in western society.

So, interesting theory, but no, I don't think so.

    Cheers :-)

  3. It wouldn't do much of anything for feminism, but I think it would help men feel more comfortable breaking out of arbitrary masculinity.

  4. I doubt it would be useful. What would be far more useful is if guys got their heads out of their arses for a change and woke up - and the same goes for a lot of women!

  5. Does wearing pants make women more sensitive to men's needs?  If it does, I have to say I haven't noticed.

  6. I don't care what men or women wear as long as I don't have to look at much other than their arms and legs and their face bare. I have no idea if it would help guys to wear skirts or dresses, but if they want to, I'm for it. I'm not too into rules when it comes to clothing-I just don't want to see people naked.

  7. Some day?? Are you serious?? Really? Don't you have madi gras in America F yeah? Shut up, get on with it; and stop belittling that of which you don't know.

There's my two cents shove up yer jacksie for all I care.

  8. Oh yes the femmies would love that because when that happens then they will have broken the back of masculinity and that after all is their number one goal.

They would have us wear dresses and High heels and so long as we didn't look as good as them they would feel empowered.

  9. Every society has a norm, some society are strict while others are very loose. Surprisingly our society is pretty loose even when it comes to gender roles. Women are no longer seen as submissive to the demands of men and unlike earlier times women could wear pants. For a women to be seen in pants is frown upon long time ago but now its pretty normal. You have to appreciate how our society is very different from other society that wouldn't tolerate women wearing pants simply because it's masculine. As for men wearing skirts, it would have an impact on society but not in the way you probably wanted it to be. Men wearing clothes that are usually feminine is usually associated with a different social matter that is nowhere near the gender inequality but transsexualism. Since sexuality (usually homosexuality, bisexuality, and others) is becoming a serious issue today i don't think your idea is possible since society will only misinterpret it. However, I think men today are more open about their "feminine side" than they were before. If you see television shows such as modeling and interrior design which could be stereotypically associated with women's work usually have male counterparts who embrace aesthetic values. It is frown upon for men to cry, but crying becomes an exception for men in times of severe hardships. If you watch the movie Spanglish a protagonist whose a hispanic woman commented that her boss (Adam Sandler), crying because he had a serious fight with his wife, would be considered a women in her latino culture which embraces the Macho man. She came to a conclusion that american men are more like women compare to hispanic men. Basically my conclusion is that in our society men are becoming more feminine or women-like, it doesn't necessarily have to be manifested in clothings but attitude and way of thinking.

  10. Well, since you mentioned feelings. My feelings tell me this question is a joke.

  11. AND TAMPONS TOO.

    MAKE 'EM WEAR TAMPONS.

  12. They could never pull that look off.   That's something unique to women.

  13. Well as a child whose mom and sister were both feminist. I would say that may not work. My mom and sister always gave me lecture’s and such on female rights and how women were mistreated. since my dad was navy and gone most of the time (up to 2 years at once) no one to dispute it. Teaching your child different views and showing them thins from a different prospective will work better on a young boy. I could be wrong but this is just my personal experience from being as close to the female perspective as possible for a young male.

  14. I'm not a feminist, but I think Scottish guys look hot in kilts. They're technically skirts, aren't they?

  15. People should wear whatever they want and not be persecuted for this.  If you are a cross dresser then live your dreams.

  16. what?? Men do wear dresses and women do wear pants... i am confused is there something wrond with that i never though there was..... It has been going on fora while now.

Just cause you put a dress on doesnt mean you are more understanding of someone's needs same with pants... see your making clothes a big deal yourself... why not everyone just be bloody naked HUH?

    Edit

Kyrios Menelaus, you are an idiot... how dare you say feminists are men haters and baby killers stop watching that idiot box and wake up to reality.. feminism is for equal rights and men can be feminists to and i know plenty SO s***w YOU

Dress doesnt make you more emotionally in touch with anything and wearing pants doesnt make you macho... sorry but this was a silly question (no offence)

  17. Excellent assertion, my dear ! I agree whole-heartedly !!!

  18. Wearing skirts and dresses will not make any difference on someone's outlook.  In Greece men wore togas.  In the Middle East, they wear caftans.  And yet women are not considered equal.
