Femke Heemskerk conquers Women’s 200m freestyle semi-finals - 2011 FINA World Championships
Netherlands’ Femke Heemskerk impressed the arena with her impressive swim in the Women’s 200m freestyle semi-final meet on day three of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Tuesday, July 26.
The session of the meet held two semi-finals, where Heemskerk won the Women’s 200m freestyle heat, while Takeshi Matsuda of Japan grabbed the Men’s 200m butterfly title.
Heemskerk won the 200m freestyle event with a sterling time of 1 minute and 55.54 seconds. Earlier, Femke won the gold medal in the Women’s 4x100m freestyle at the current edition of the meet.
Federica Pellegrini of Italy wound up second in a time of 1 minute and 56.42 seconds, while Kylie Palmer of Australia earned third place honours in a time of 1 minute and 56.59 seconds. Camille Muffat of France was placed fourth in 1 minute and 56.62 seconds,
whereas, Sarah Sjoes Troem of Switzerland finished fifth in a time of 1 minute and 56.71 seconds.
Bronte Barratt of Australian settled sixth in 1 minute and 56.90 seconds, while Silke Lippok of Germany wound up seventh in 1 minute and 57.02 seconds. Allison Schmitt of United States earned eighth spot in a time of 1 minute and 57.07 seconds. Agnes Mutina
of Hungary finished ninth in 1 minute and 57.53 seconds, whereas, Melania Schmid Costa of Spain claimed the tenth spot in 1 minute and 57.83 seconds.
In the meantime, Takeshi Matsuda of Japan put forward a stunning splash and picked the Men’s 200m Butterfly semi-finals meet with a victorious time of 1 minute and 54.30 seconds. Yin Chen of China finished second in 1 minute and 54.80 seconds, while Michael
Phelps of United States rounded out the top three in 1 minute and 54.85 seconds.
Dinko Jukic wound up fourth in 1 minute and 54.94 seconds, whereas, Peng Wu of China was placed fifth in a time of 1 minute and 55.28 seconds. Bence Biczo of Hungary settled sixth in 1 minute and 55.35 seconds.
Chad Clos Le of Russia finished seventh in a time of 1 minute and 55.56 seconds. Pawel Korzeniowski of Poland earned eighth spot in 1 minute and 55.85 seconds, while Scott Clary of United States grabbed ninth spot in a time of 1 minute and 56.01 seconds.
Kaio Almeida of Brazil finished tenth in 1 minute and 56.06 seconds.
