Fencing Coaching Programme announced, to be conducted in Sindh: Pakistan Fencing Federation
Pakistan Fencing Federation (PFF) today confirmed that their coaching programme, which was duly announced last month to take place in Sindh, will take place in the first week of June.
The Sindh Fencing Association (SFA) confirmed in their March meeting that a fencing coaching programme will be held in the province with three commencement stops. This programme will be held in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Karachi for two days each respectively.
On behalf of the PFF, Punjab Fencing Association (PFA) will organise the programme along with a tournament among the Punjab and Sindh fencers. The tournament will feature all the three weapon disciplines sabre, epee and foil for both male and female fencers.
The PFA officials that will hold the programme in Sindh comprise of four officials including Shafqat Ali and Maheen. Along with the officials, players from the Punjab will leave for Sindh to play the tournament.
A total of 24 players will be selected to go, consisting of four male players and four female players of each weapon. These players will receive a week’s training before leaving for the Sindh competition.
The tournament will feature Sindh’s Director of Sports as the Chief Guest throughout the event.
In addition to the programme and tournament to be held there, the Sindh Sports Board has also invited PFA for a meeting, featuring discussions for the future prospects and development of the Sport in Pakistan. This meeting is to be organised by the Sindh
Olympic Association (SOA), during the days of the coaching program.
One of the PFF officials informed about the declaration that the venue along with the final date of the coaching programme will be released soon.
It is very disappointing that fencing has a very low recognition as a sport in Pakistan. Even though many developmental plans are being carried out for promoting the sport throughout the country, yet it fails to win a remarkable attention from public. As
a result, the sport not only lacks nation-wide promotion but international attention too.
Many Islamic countries have been playing and hosting Internal Fencing Federation (FIE). Moreover, the neighbouring countries like China, Iran, Iraq and India have an old fencing history. Considering these facts, it is heart-breaking that Pakistan lacks way
too far in earning recognition for the game.
