Fencing to be played in 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games: Fencing News
Fencing is known worldwide due to its uniqueness therefore it is announced that fencing is also going to be added in 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games, which are planned from June 26 to July 1. For the first time in the history of World Scholar-Athlete Games,
fencing competitions will also be conducted.
Fencing is an international sport, mounting its routs on all over the world. Due to its worldwide attractiveness, The Organising Committee of WSAG decided to add this sport to the sports series held at 2011 World Scholar-Athlete Games. On January 11, 2011
it was already decided that Fencing will be played in 2011 WSAG, and scholar athletes of the ages between 15 to 19 may compete in the international WSAG event. Now it is officially announced regarding the inclusion of this game.
World Scholar-athlete Games (WSAG) are conducted once every four years to develop the relationships, understandings and friendship among the international scholar-athletes and among the nations. There are individual national teams, but all the teams are
made up of different young men of different nations. Not only sports competitions are held, but arts activities like dancing, photography, poetry and many other activities are also involved.
2011 WSAG will be take place from June 26 to July 1, 2011 in Greater Hartford Connecticut area, Kingston, Rhode Island. The athletes, having age 15-19, can participate in the WSAG. Between competitions, participants will also allowed to contribute in the
games themes day’s programmes such as world peace, healthy activities, ethics and many others.
WSAG was conceived by a Tufts University student, Dan Doyle. World Scholar-Athlete Gamed were first held on June 20, 1993. Bill Bradley was made Honorary Chair, 103 countries and all States of America were invited to this sports fair and this event completed
as one of the most successful international event, the first time it was ever held. As a successful completion of the WSAG, the institute was granted a federal endowment to replicate the Scholar-Athlete Games concept. 2006 World Scholar-Athlete Games was the
largest international sports and cultural event that received delegations from 157 nations including all 50 states.
Over two thousands and four hundred scholar athlete participated in this event and also celebrated in the institute’s 20th anniversary. The former US President, Bill Clinton, was honoured as a Chief Guest in this event and delivered his key-note
address.
