Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL defeats Asseco Resovia RZESZOW by 3-2 – Volleyball news
The Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall in the capital of Turkey, Istanbul, saw the men’s volleyball teams of Fenerbahce Grundig ISTANBUL compete in a match with Asseco Resovia RZESZOW.
The contest between the Polish side and the home team was a part of the Challenge round of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Cup that is currently being staged in Europe.
The two teams put on a good show that kept the 1,000 spectators on the edge of their seats as they waited for five long and thrilling sets to see the home team emerge as the victors.
The first set of the match saw the home team dominate the court for the majority of the time but in the next two sets the guests were able to assert themselves. The home side put in an impressive effort to take the match to a thrilling fifth set but ended
in a win for ISTANBUL.
As a disappointed Polish team was walking out of the courts while the Turkish side was celebrating its well-deserved win, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-17, 22-25, 23-25, 25-19 and 15-10.
The head coach of the Fenerbahce team, Daniel Castellani, expressed himself in the following words after his team had won the match, “Since we do not want to take the risk of a golden set we’ll go to Poland to win also the return game and qualify for the
semi finals. Rodrigo Quiroga debuted tonight for our team and I am sure that by next week we’ll feel his contribution and help even more.”
On the other hand, the coach of the losing side, Andrzej Kowal, had the following comments to make, “We are evidently not happy with this result but we’ll do our best to take the next match and also the golden set in front of our great fans.”
The player that was able to stand out from amongst the home squad was Ivan Miljkovic as he kept the pressure on his opponents throughout the entire match by putting up a total of 22 points.
