Fenerbahce Ulker, Gescrap BB and Olympiacos win – Euroleague Group A Fifth week Review
During the fifth week of the Turkish Airlines Euro league, three games took place in Group A. Here is a brief review of the games:
Fenerbahce Ulker 85 - Bennet Cantu 83
Six players reached double figures as Fenerbahce Ulker registered their third straight victory with an 85-83 overtime victory over Bennet Cantu on November 16 at the Sinan Erdem Arena.
Omer Onan Ulker starred with 18 points on a 5 for 9 shooting from two-point range while Thabo Sefolosha had 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals in the victory. Oguz Savas added 13 points and grabbed five rebounds; Bojan Bogdanovic
and Roko Ukic posted 12 points each and Gasper Vidmar came off the bench with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals for Fenerbahce.
Gianluca Basile and Nicolas Mazzarino led Bennet with 12 points each while Maarten Leunen and Denis Marconato chipped in 11 points apiece in season’s second defeat for Cantu.
Ulker trailed 35-32 at halftime, but improved at both ends of the floor in the third quarter to convert the deficit into a 56-52 lead. Bennet however struck back in the last quarter and tied the game at 73, sending it into overtime.
Fenerbahce started the overtime on a roll and held a 79-75 lead, which was never relinquished.
Gescrap BB 89 - Caja Laboral 84
Gescrap BB snapped their three-game losing streak with an 89-84 win over Caja Laboral at the Iradier Arena. It was second consecutive defeat for Laboral, who now share a multiple tie for first place at 3-2.
Kostas Vasiliadis headed Gescrap with 21 points on 3 for 3 from downtown and 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Alex Mumbru added 14 points and Marko Banic had 12 points.
For Laboral, Mirza Teletovic punctuated a game-high 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Pablo Prigioni with 17 points and Fernando San Emeterio finished with 13.
Gescrap started at a good pace and held a 25-17 lead after 10 minutes. Caja began to show their class in the next frame and cut the margin to five, 41-36, at halftime. Both teams played a very close game in the third quarter but
Gescrap still managed to hold on to a 66-62 lead going into the fourth. Caja made a great comeback in the fourth quarter and went ahead by 81-76 with two minutes to go in the game however Gescrap turned it on with an 11-0 run and did not look back.
Olympiacos 91 - SLUC Nancy 78
At the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Olympiacos improved to 2-3 in Group A with a 91-78 victory over SLUC Nancy.
Vassilis Spanoulis topped all scorers with 26 points and six assists. Michalis Pelekanos paced the winners with 11 points and five rebounds while Andreas Glyniadakis ended with 10 points for Olympiacos, who saw their two-game losing
streak snapped.
Adrien Moerman led SLUC with 20 points on 6 for 9 shooting from two-point range. John Linehan totalled 17 points while Jamal Shuler contributed 15 points in the loss.
Spanoulis racked up nine of his points in the first quarter as Olympiacos held a 30-22 lead after the opening 10 minutes of action. Nancy displayed a strong defence in the second to get within four at the break. Glyniadakis and
Martynas however shined in the third period to give Olympiacos a 67-52 lead after 30 minutes.  Nancy did not get any closer than 10 points in the last quarter.
