Fenerbahce Ulker and Gescrap BB record wins: Euroleague Basketball January 25th Review
Fenerbahce Ulker Vs EA7 Emporio Armani:
Fenerbahce Ulker put up an outstanding performance in their top 16 opener against Unics last week, but unfortunately still fell short by 5 points in the end.
However on Wednesday night, they rectified their mistakes and held their nerves in the final moments to edge past EA7 Emporio Armani 65-63, in what was another enthralling spectacle.
Both Emporio and Ulker fought the first 30 minutes gallantly. Ulker started the deciding quarter with a 12-7 burst to get in a dominating position, ahead by 8 points 58-50. The 8 point lead turned out to be decisive as Emporio despite fighting their hearts
out in the ensuing passage still fell short by 2 points, giving Ulker their first win of the top 16.
Bojan Bogdanovic was the star of the night and led the Ulker with a game high 17 points including 7 for 9 from the charity stripe. Roko Ukic played the supporting role well by chipping in with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Mason Rocca was the most outstanding player for the Armani and completed a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. Antonis Fotsis too added 16 while Stefano Mancinelli drained 13 points on 5 for 9 from the floor.
Armani shot 46.9% from the floor in contrast to 43.2% from Ulker.
Gescrap BB Vs Unicaja:
Gescrap BB were routed by Montepaschi Siena in their first outing of the top 16 last week. The team and players had more than a week to think what went wrong and where they lapsed in that game.
They did their homework perfectly and cruised to a massive 85-70 win over Unicaja on Wednesday night to improve their record to 1-1.
But it was not an easy win and they were made to work hard for it.
Unicaja, behind by 6 points 52-58 near the end of the third quarter, after a well fought first half were very much in the game. It was the fierce 18-4 spurt by Gescrap in the first six minutes of the deciding frame that stunned the Unicaja and pushed the
game miles away from them. Unicaja failed to make a comeback and by the final buzzer were 15 points behind the Gescrap.
Kostas Vasiliadis scored 19 on a perfect 5 for 5 from the charity stripe for the winners while Alex Mumbru drained 18 points. Arron Jackson pounded 14.
Joel Freeland led Unicaja with 18 points on 9-for-11 from inside the arc whereas Gerald Fitch had 17 points and 5 boards. Hrvoje Peric netted 11 points on 3 for 4 from the charity stripe.
