Fenerbahce Ulker beat SLUC Nancy 90-86; Win their first game of the Euroleague season
Fenerbahce Ulker bounced back from their two-game losing streak and beat the SLUC Nancy 90-86 on November 03 at the Abdi Ipekci Sports Hall. The win gave the Turkish giants their first points in the tournament. Nancy on the other
hand dropped to 1-2 in the Group A.
Six Fenerbahce players reached double figures on the night. Thabo Sefolosha led the way with 19 points on 5 for 6 shooting from two-point range and grabbed five rebounds. Omer Onan, James Gist and Oguz Savas racked up 13 points
each; Bojan Bogdanovic posted 11 points while Kaya Peker totalled 10 points, four rebounds and three steals in the victory.
Nancy also had some super performances. John Linehan set an all-time record with 15 assists in a game, eclipsing the previous record of 14 shared by Theo Papaloukas and Tyus Edney. It was only the second game in the history of
the league to feature more than one player with 10 or more assists.
Forward Victor Samnick came off the bench with a career-high 24 points, shooting 12 for 16 from two-point range. Nicolas Batum also posted a strong all-around game with 22 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals; Adrien
Moerman recorded a double-double with a game-high 15 rebounds and 11 points while Jamal Shuler had 13 points on 2 for 2 shooting from three-point range.
Fenerbahce shot 68.2 percent (28 for 41) from two-point range while Nancy shot just 50 percent (28 for 56).
SLUC stunned Ulker in the beginning with Batum stepping up for a 5-0 start. Thabo Sefolosha got Fenerbahce on the scoreboard and vey soon the Turks tied the game at 8-8. Balance prevailed in the ensuing minutes and the sides were
locked at 17 with about two minutes to go in the first quarter. Ulker broke the deadlock and reeled off a 17-0 run bridging the last two minutes of the first quarter and the early part of the second to carve out a 34-17 lead.
Bu the time, the teams went into the break, Fenerbahce were leading Nancy 55-34.
SLUC however turned it on in the third period, outscoring Ulker 27-15 and closed the gap to nine, 70-61. They continued to fight back in the fourth and came within five, with four minutes to go in the game. However, Ulker racked
up the next five points to put the game out of the reach of their group rivals.
