Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL heads into final four of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
A quarter final of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League- Women was played between the two teams of Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL from Turkey and the Rabita BAKU squad.
The competition between the two sides took place in the Turkish city of Istanbul. The venue of the match was the Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall where a total of 5,200 spectators came to watch the show.
It did not take long for the match to reach its close as the Turkish squad was able to make a clean sweep over their opponents and enter into the final four of the championship. The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-20, 25-17 and 25-20.
The head coach of the home team, Zé Roberto, expressed himself on the performance of his team at the press conference held after the match in the following words, “Tonight we did a good job and routed our opponents, but we still have to improve the quality
of our game for the final four.”
On the other hand, the captain of the winning side, Seda Tokatlioglu, shared her views in the following manner, “Although they have some great players, we have improved much since the start of the season and have become a real team. My teammates deserve
a lot of praise for what they did tonight.”
The first set of the match saw the BAKU squad take the lead at the coming of the first technical time out at 8-7 but the home team managed to get level and get the advantage for themselves. After that point, it was only a matter of time before the Turkish
were able to bag the first set of the game at 25-20.
The loss of the first set dampened the spirits of the guests in the second frame and they trailed far behind the Turkish at 10-16. The halfhearted effort put in by the BAKU squad could not turn things around as the Turkish secured another win at 25-17. The
third set saw the BAKU team step up their game a bit but they still could not stop the Turkish from winning the frame at 25-20.
The semi final of the tournament will take place on March 24-25 with Azerbaijan’s capital city of Baku playing host.
