Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL wins last Pool B match – 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League
The last match of the Pool B of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women took place recently in Dresden, Germany.
The two teams that participated in the contest were the home squad of DRESDNER SC as well as the guest team of Fenerbahce Universal ISTANBUL. The match between the home team and the guests was viewed by a total of 2,800 spectators.
Despite the fact that they were playing on their home turf, the Germans lost the match to the more experienced and skilled Turkish squad.
However, the Germans did not go down without putting up a commendable fight that took the match to four long and thrilling sets. By the time that the Turkish had started celebrating their well deserved win and the Germans were moving out of the court in
disappointment, the scoreboard read as 25-23, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-19.
The head coach of the home squad, Alexander Waibl, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference that was conducted after the match had reached its close, “I’m very proud of my team and the set we won against this world class side from
Istanbul.”
The player who earned the title of being the top scorer in the match belonged to the winning side of Turkey. Kim Yeon-Koung was able to lead her squad to victory by scoring a total of 18 points in the entire match.
On the other hand, the most active player on the German side was Anne Matthes who kept the pressure on her opponents by pulling off a total of 14 points for her side.
The first two sets of the game saw both the teams stay neck to neck with each other all through with no one sure where the tables would turn.
Eventually, the opening set was bagged by the guests while the second frame was secured by the home team.
However, the Germans lost all their steam in the third and the fourth sets in which the guests were able to come out strong and smother their opponents to secure a comfortable win.
