Fenerbahce downs Mulhouse in straight sets – 2012 CEV Champions League
Fenerbahce’s Kim Yeon-Keung posted 14 kills, 3 blocks, and two aces, while Captain Seda Tokatlioglu added 14 points and the middle blocker Eda Erdem contributed 11 valuable points as the Turkish team swept France’s ASPTT Mulhouse in straight sets on Wednesday,
January 11, 2012.
The team of Fenerbahce Universal Istanbul crossed its way with the French counterparts in the fifth leg of league round of 2012 CEV Women’s Champions League. The Burhan Felek Volleyball Hall in TVF Complex in Istanbul provided an excellent sporty environment
for the crucial match.
Fenerbahce posted 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-12) victory over Mulhouse and maintained its supremacy in Pool B. They are the top team in the group and the most favourite to play in the next round of the tournament.
The Brazilian Coach of Fenerbahce, Zé Roberto, was completely satisfied with the overwhelming feat of his team. He said that the players followed his game plan and displayed great synchronisation in attack and defence. He appreciated their teamwork but also
urged them for further improvement.
Meanwhile, the mentor of Mulhouse, Magali stated, “Fenerbahce is a very strong team and we did not receive well tonight. To play at such a level we need to reinforce our roster.”
“We did not play well tonight. If we want to handle such opponents we need to serve better, play faster and work harder,” added the French captain Armelle Faesch.
Turkish team was equipped with stupendous support of local fans and had the competitive edge of playing at the familiar court. They jumped out of the gate and started a flurry of scores.
Mulhouse, on the other hand, seemed totally out of form in front of Fenerbahce. The guest team suffered enough setbacks and trailed behind 4-14. Polina Stoyneva of Mulhouse put some effort and added a couple of points, which shortened the gap of points.
However, Fenerbahce hit back strongly and restored its leadership. Ultimately, the first set went to Fenerbahce as they put 25-17 on the board.
The charged up Fenerbahce players carried the momentum into the second frame and stormed the opponent’s half with groundbreaking shots. They rallied a 6-0 run and showed a clear intention of taking another set in the match.
Mulhouse tried to fight the challenge but failed to cope up with the power of Fenerbahce. The rowdy Turkish fans made great noise and further added to the nervousness of the French players. Turks won the second set in row with a margin of nine points at
25-16.
The third set unfolded the similar story as Fenerbahce kept the operations of the game under hand and quickly covered the length of frame. Finally, Fenerbahce hit the mark in the 65th minute of the game and took the match after closing the third
set at 25-12.
