Question:

Fenugreek in lower dosage to increase milk supply slightly?

I'm considering taking fenugreek to up my milk supply. However, some of the side effects such as sweat smelling like maple syrup and loose stools worry me. I'm going back to work soon and the last thing I want is to go around smelling like syrup and constantly running to the bathroom!

Has anyone ever taken it in lower dosages than recommended? I'm not expecting to exclusively breastfeed my baby, I'm only hoping to be able to pump two bottles worth of breast milk a day, one for morning and one for night. Do you think this will work and help me avoid some of the side effects?

  1. To answer you, I have not taken lower dosages, but I have been taking it regularly. ALthough I have stopped about a week ago because I did read somewhere that you can take fenugreek to help up your supply, and stop taking fenugreek. It will still continue your breast flow of milk. but don't take my word for it.

As for the side effects, I haven't had any of the listed side effects at all. I do notice a side effect I do have is sweating. I haven't noticed a maple syrup smell neither. Perhaps I'm not taking the whole dosage.

I recommend trying it for a day or two and then stop if you're worried about the loose stools.
