The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International claims that he wants to end his Manchester United career at the peak of his powers and when the club are on top of the footballing pyramid.
Many pundits felt that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 was way past his prime in the opening exchanges of the new season and that he should hang up his boots sooner rather than later.
The centre-back has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League for the last decade or so as well as being the foundation for success for the Red Devils.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550 out injured since October, someone needed to step up the plate and lead the team until the skipper returned.
Unsurprisingly that someone has been Ferdinand, who has seemingly gotten over his injury woes and has featured in nearly all the games whenever fit.
With United edging closer to title number twenty, it seems that Ferdinand might want to bow out on the highest stage, while he can still call himself one of the best.
However toppling http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 seems to the club’s mission and until they overtake the Catalans as the best side in the world, Ferguson won’t rest comfortably.
That seems to be the case with Ferdinand as well, who claims that he won’t go out as a loser.
“There are not many players who leave this club doing exactly what they want to do. It wouldn’t be good finishing your career with a loss, or by not winning something,” he said.
“The losses now do my head in. To think I wouldn’t be able to rectify it the season after because I had retired or left would rankle. I am not thinking about retirement. I am trying to play as long as I can. I have another year after this and I want to do
another 10.”
“But whenever it is, I would want to go out on a high note."
While the Premier League champions are course to retaining their crown, beating Barcelona and lifting the UEFA Champions League is something which they will have to work hard for, as Pep Guardiola’s men are simply on a level of their own.
