As if the game had not attracted enough controversy, reports began to emerge that referee Mark Clattenburg racially abused John Obi-Mikel, after which the club’s staff and players confronted the official in his room.
The Blues have since then launched a case and the whole incident is being investigated by the Football Association as well as the London Metropolitan Police.

Speaking to reporters, the former Aberdeen boss claimed that during his entire managerial career he had not heard of such an incident and therefore it was highly unlikely that it had occurred last time out.
“I don’t believe Mark Clattenburg would make any comments like that. I refuse to believe it. I think it’s unthinkable. In the modern climate, I just don’t believe it. Simple as that. There is no way a referee would stoop to that, I’m convinced about that.
I think the way we see the game today as compared to the way it was 25 years ago, it has completely changed.”
Continuing, he added that the footballers often joked with the officials, but that is something limited to harmless laughs and the situation would have never reached this magnitude
“I played myself and I know the banter that goes on between referees and players 25 years ago is different from today. I’ve never heard of a player come to me in the last 15 years and say, the referee swore in the game," the Scottish manager was quoted
as saying to the media.
