The veteran tactician claims that the Englishman has made a huge difference in the team ever since his return from retirement.
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels that Paul Scholes has been a major factor in retaining their 20th League title.
The midfielder retired last season after the UEFA Champions League final, but made a surprise return to the first team after injuries threatened to derail their campaign.
However despite his absence from the game, Scholes hasn’t lost his sense of touch and has been able to stamp his dominance on games just like he used to do before. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International has netted three goals since his return and since then the
Red Devils has dropped only two points.
Playing with his usual tenacity in the centre of the park, his influence on the squad has been much felt and he was on target with a typical Scholes strike yesterday as well.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson’s side welcomed QPR to Old Trafford and needed a win to cement their place on top of the League. United pressed throughout the ninety minutes and took the lead through Wayne Rooney’s penalty on 15 minutes.
Scholes then added a second after the break, unleashing a scorcher from distance that Paddy Kenny could do little to stop.
With Manchester City stumbling against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, the reigning champions are now eight points clear, with only a handful of games to spare.
While there are numerous factors which have led to the current situation, Ferguson claims that one of them has been Paul Scholes.
"That was a typical http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394 goal. He has scored three since he came back into the fold and we have only dropped two points. You see the control of the game he has and the way he controlled the tempo of the game. That has never changed. At 37, he is
still capable of that”.
"He is a great player and integral to what has happened over the past few weeks.”
The Scot also added that he was happy with his side’s performances over the last few months and reiterated that they had now gained enough momentum to win the Premier League.
"I am pleased with our results. There has been good consistency in our defending and now we are a goal better off and it is a game less,” he said.
With United eight points clear, the title looks set to stay in the Red half of Manchester, despite a trip to Etihad still to go.
