The veteran Scot claims that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 will not be leaving the club during the summer transfer window and that he should be getting a contract renewal soon.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550 continually suffering from injury problems for the past year or so, Rio Ferdinand has been Manchester United’s consistent presence in the backline.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International may have had to alter his game to suit his ageing body, but he remains a valuable asset for the Red Devils and was influential in maintaining their defensive calm when the captain was on the sidelines recovering.
Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson has never made a secret of his admiration for the player and while Ferdinand is edging ever closer to retirement, the former Aberdeen boss claims he will be handed a new deal so that he can extend his stay at least for the time being.
The ex-West Ham star has his current contract running out in the summer but Ferguson is confident that the centre-back will accept new terms and secure his Old Trafford future for a couple of seasons more.
Speaking to reporters, the tactician reiterated that there was no doubt as to whether Ferdinand would be staying at the club and that the technical side of things will be resolved quite soon.
“I don’t think his contract issue comes into it at all. Even if he had another three years left, we would still be dealing with his playing time as best we can. His preparation is good, he is doing a lot of work on that and his pre-match preparation is also
very good. He does things like yoga, which will help him sustain his playing time,” said the coach while talking to the media.
Continuing, he added that the defender himself did not want to leave Manchester and United were only too pleased to keep him.
“I don’t think Rio wants to leave and I don’t think he is panicking about that. I think we are comfortable with that,” Fergie was quoted as saying while speaking to reporters.
The Reds now plat Rio’s old club, West Ham, in the F.A Cup, something which the manager is eager to win after grabbing their last triumph way back in 2004.
