Ferguson confirms Rooney’s desire to quit
Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is going to quit Manchester United. As a result of this, the striker would not be playing for Manchester United in the midweek Champions League match.
Wayne Rooney previously revealed that he told his club, in August, that he was not interested in signing a new contract. Despite of Ferguson’s desire, Wayne Rooney took the decision to leave the club at the time of contract expiry in 2012.
The Manchester United and English striker, Rooney, has shown displeasure towards his club, in recent times. This happened when he remained out of action for several weeks, on a fake of an ankle injury. However, during a press conference Rooney revealed that
he did not suffer from any ankle injury this summer. This thing was also confirmed by the English team’s physiotherapist, who told the press that Rooney is fully fit and attending all the training sessions for his club. Due to this, he also starred in the
England’s Euro qualifying matches.
After this incident, Rooney openly expressed himself before the media. However, Manchester United continued to deny the news, calling it a rumour. At the same time, Alex Ferguson kept on avoiding questions from the media. However, in the press conference
before the Champions League clash, Ferguson openly accepted that Wayne Rooney has refused to sign a new contract and he would be leaving in 2012.
Ferguson showed a lot of disappointment towards his striker, who had let his team down. Ferguson also showed his disapproval towards the media for breaking out the news earlier than expected, ruining the relationship between the player and his club. However,
Ferguson again suggested that no player is bigger than the club, so they should not indulge in matters that bring bad name to Manchester United.
The Manchester United coach also took the credit for making Rooney a big player. He claimed that he was the one behind Rooney’s popularity as a great footballer from Europe, but the striker did not return the favour back to him. Despite of his attempts to
save the relationship, Ferguson failed to stop Rooney from making his decision.
One thing is clear that Ferguson punished the player, probably because of his refusal to sign a new contract. However, the problems intensified after allegations regarding Rooney’s private life were put on the media. After this incident, the player needed
a little more punishment, and Ferguson sidelined him after making an excuse of a false injury. At this point, the striker could not suffer more and he broke out everything in the news.
The better option for Ferguson would be to sell the player in winter. The player is unsettled at the moment, which can disturb other players as well. There can be problems during the training sessions, which can easily be avoided if Rooney leaves as early
as possible. Also, Ferguson would be paying big sums to his player, for his services. This money should be saved as the player is rendered almost ineffective, at the moment.
Apart from that, it has recently been revealed that Rooney can leave the club in next summer for a meagre price of £5 million. Therefore, it would be logically sound if Ferguson cashes in during the winter.
Manchester United is facing big problems, probably for the first time since Ferguson joined the club. Their Champions league spot is in danger, while financial problems have started to grow as well. The situation would further deteriorate if Rooney leaves
the club as well. Although, Ferguson has some replacements, however no one can be as effective as Rooney. The main problem is that no player in United is a reliable goal-scorer, while Rooney had this exceptional quality.
Wayne Rooney has many options open before him, as Chelsea and Real Madrid are showing interest. He would definitely land in some better place, as everyone would be interested in signing a world class goal-scorer.
