Former Everton striker, Duncan Ferguson revealed that he had received lucrative offers from top flight teams at the time of his retirement, but instead chose to end his career as an Evertonian.
The 40-year old Scott appeared in 273 matches for Everton and netted 72 goals in the process. He made his Premier League debut in 1994 for Everton and is considered as one of the legendary figures in the club’s history. He was also a part of the Toffees
FA Cup winning team in 1995.
Apart from his lengthy career at Goodison Park, the Scott also represented Newcastle United from 1998 to 2000, but failed to make a mark at the Tyneside club after suffering from injuries.
Ferguson, whose career spanned over a period of 16 years, unearthed that at the age of 34 in 2006, the time he retired as a player, he was approached by different English clubs who wanted him to continue playing in the Premier League. However, he turned
down the offers as a symbol of his loyalty to Everton.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I wanted to remember myself as an Everton player and I wanted to retire at this club. I had one or two other offers to stay in the Premier League but I took the decision to retire as an http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 player.”
The former striker made the final appearance of his career at Goodison Park on 7th of May 2006 against West Bromwich Albion. He scored a goal in the 90th minute of the game and received a tumultuous farewell from the home fans. He then
moved to Mallorca with his family and made a return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 5 years later in October.
At present, the Scott is working as an academy coach at Everton.
And Ferguson admitted that after being detached from football for a considerable period of time, he felt the urge to make a comeback and is willing to help his former club in any capacity.
He continued, “I was missing it. The adrenaline, the big games, scoring goals, training – everything.”
“I've been working with the kids for the last six or seven months and it's been enjoyable. It's different for me, looking at things from the other side, the coach's side. It's rewarding.”
