Is it possible to have two identical twins where the same embryo is fertilized then split and end up a boy and girl?

  1. Identical twins are always the same gender.

    Identical twins come from the same egg, which splits after fertilization, well before the embryonic stage.

  2. no, because identical means they have the same genes. this means that identical must be either both boys or both girls. only fraternal can have 2 boys, 2 girls, or 1 boy 1 girl.

  3. no, identical twins (which are formed from a single fertilized embryo that split into two) can ONLY be the same s*x.

    Fraternal twins (formed from two seperate eggs) can be different sexes.

  4. When there are identical twins they are always the same s*x. If it's a boy and a girl, then they are fraternal.

  5. Surprisingly, it IS technically possible. Theoretical, actually. But there's a possibility, however remote, of XY division at an early stage allowing for a boy/girl identical twin birth. Don't think it's ever happened though :)
