Fernanda Gonzalez earns Women’s 200m backstroke gold: Day two - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez of Mexico earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on second day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Saturday, June 2.
The Santa Clara International is one the most important stage of the 2012 USA Swimming Series that allows the elite class players to face each other before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 22-year-old Gonzalez Ramirez stayed considerably ahead of her opponents from the start of the event and proved her mettle for gold medal of the event.
With her astonishing pace, she dominated the first lap of the event by submitting a time of 31.48 seconds. She was followed by Kateryna Fesenko of Indiana-IA, who was nearly 0.70 seconds apart tapped the finishing wall with an effort 32.13 seconds.
The Mexican swimmer demonstrated her smothering efforts in the second lap, where she elevated her pace and finished her initial 100 metres of the swim by posting a time of 1 minute and 05.08 seconds.
Her gruelling effort placed her 0.70 seconds ahead of Fesenko, who remained prominent for second position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 05.78 seconds.
The third lap saw scintillating struggles of Gonzalez Ramirez, who gained a lead of one a and a half body length over her following swimmer and posted 1 minute and 38.87 seconds.
Similarly, Fesenko remained 1.38 seconds apart and covered the equivalent distance with the timing of 1 minute and 40.25 seconds.
With her unstoppable efforts in the fourth lap, the Mexican veteran accomplished gold medal of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.33 seconds.
She was chased by Fesenko, who remained 1.37 seconds apart and produced a timing of 2 minutes and 13.70 seconds for second position of the event.
The silver medallist was chased by Madeline J Dirado of Unattached-PC, who was 1.07 seconds slower and occupied bronze medal of the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.77 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts after the session.
