Fernandez-Brugues and Nina Bratchikova successful in the qualifying round of 2011 Andalucia Tennis Experience
Eva Fernandez-Brugues of Spain made a stunning come back to oust eight seed Italian Corinna Dentoni 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of 2011 Andalucia Tennis Experience qualifying round. With her win the Spaniard has also set
up a clash with María-Teresa Torró-Flor for a place in the main draw starting in Marbella from Tuesday.
The Spaniard won her last professional career title back in August 2010 and has been struggling to find her form on the tour since then. She had very limited success on the tour since she turned professional in 2005. Ranked 333
in the world, Eva will be hoping to change the course of her career with a strong performance here at this tournament.
Eva looked down and out as the match started. She suffered a serve break in the third and 5th games of the opening set. Her opponent Dentoni displayed better tennis and held on to her serve games to secure the set score
lead 1-0.
In the second set the Spaniard organized her game and put up a much better show. She saved three break points in the second game and then broke the serve twice in the set afterwards to force the match into the decider.
Having put the challenger under extreme pressure with her terrific ground strokes in the second set, Eve started to time the ball really well and executed her backhand and forehands shots to perfection in the final set. Her first
serve was decisive winning her crucial points during the contest. After breaking the serve twice in the set, she converted her second match point to complete a deserving victory in match that lasted for 2 hours and 26 minutes.
Dentoni on the other hand was gutted with her performance. She seemed to be on course to an easy victory but lost her concentration and hence paid the price. The Italian converted only 20 percent of the points on her ineffective
second serve which also played its part in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Meanwhile 5th seed at this tournament, Russian Nina Bratchikova defeated Elena Bogdan of Romania 1-6, 6-4, 6-0 to secure a place in the final stage of 2011 Marbella Open Qualifiers.
Bratchikova struggled to connect her shots early on and made critical mistakes to hand over the first set to her opponent 6-1. The Russian had quite a few scoring opportunities in the set but failed to convert them as her court
coverage was poor.
The second set was played on a more competative note. The Russian Bratchikova broke the serve twice and held on to her serve games to win the set 6-4. Having gained the psychological advantage in the match, Breatchikova completely
dominated her opponent in the decider winning the set without dropping a single game. She required only 1 hour and 40 minutes dispatching her opponent despite the match being played over three sets.
Ranked 129 in the world, Bratchikova is 5th seed at this tournament. She has given ordinary results on the tour in the year 2011. She reached the second round of Bogota where she lost sixth seed Gallovits-Hall and then
fell in the first round of Malaysian Open. She must try and correct the flaws in her game if she wants to stand a chance against other higher ranked players competing at this tournament.
