Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa pleased with Q3 performance of Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1
Ferrari drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa have said that they are quite happy with their cars’ performance in the qualifying round of the 2011 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix.
The team drivers were surprised by the 150° Italia’s pace, as it was more than expectations at the Saturday qualifying sessions.
Both drivers Alonso and Massa took second and third places in the starting grid respectively. They are optimistic about their chances and are hoping for a strong finish on Sunday.
After the qualifying round, Alonso said, “We are two tenths, 1.5 tenths behind RBR, which is a much better result than we expected and a much better result than the first six races. The car felt competitive from yesterday and today.”
The Spaniard added that he is satisfied by running on the new Pirelli tyres. The supersoft compounds provided him an easy run during the qualifying round. He admitted that he enjoyed the moment when he was pushed to secure his top place for the Canadian
Grand Prix.
Alonso also discussed Massa’s qualifying performance and mentioned that his third-place finish has impressed the team a lot following his disappointing start to the 2011 Formula 1 season.
On the other hand, his teammate Massa talked about the qualifying round of the Montreal Grand Prix and mentioned that the team had a good and successful Saturday. He added that they seemed more competitive than others strong rivals like McLaren and Mercedes.
The Brazilian said, “We have seen that our car is competitive and that we're much closer to Red Bull, compared to previous races, so it was a good qualifying, a good day for us. We need to be ready and we hope we can have a good day tomorrow as well.”
He also discussed McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. The team driver added that despite the McLaren drivers’ performance in the qualifying round, they are strong competitors ahead of them.
After a strong finish in the qualifying round, the drivers are looking forward to their victory in the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
