Fernando Alonso Believes Team Will Help Him Win
The Spaniard seems very confident with his team as they look forward to the Belgian Grand Prix at the end of August. Fernando Alonso believes that the team will get him even closer on the championship lead after Spa, the Belgian Grand Prix. Alonso stated that the team is looking very strong strategically and after their success in Germany and Hungary, they have quite a chance of having a chance at the F1 drivers’ championship.
During Ferrari’s annual Wrooom event, Alonso stated that they have a 50% chance of securing the title and stated that the team still needs to work to challenge McLaren and Red Bull for the title. Fernando praised that it took the team only two good races to comeback. Alonso looks forward to the last 2-3 races and believes that the title will hang in the balance till the very end.
Alonso worried about the fact that he will not be competing for the title alone as Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are still in the game as well. He also thought that it would have been better if they had the lead and they would have been more comfortable but he stated again, that there is a 50% chance that they will win the Championship for 2010. Alonso also stated that the engineers and the drivers have to focus fully on the car to make it as good as they can for the race.
Stefano Domenicali, the team boss hopes that Ferrari comes out of the F1 summer break stronger and that the summer break will be beneficial to the team. Like their rival teams, Ferrari also find themselves in shutdown mode for two weeks as the teams are required to shutdown their factories for a two-week period before the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa.
Stefano hopes that this period will allow the team to come up with new ideas that may be beneficial for the team. The team boss boldly said that they will be on a break but it does not mean that their brains will be off. He believes that this break can bring them even better ideas as this break brings fresh inspiration when they are out of the normal working environment.
Ferrari heads into the break after a controversial summer following an incident in the German Grand Prix and the issue of flexi-wings involving other teams as well. The team boss was showered with criticism of his team considering other ongoing stories.
Stefano claims that this may just be an added distraction for the team and was furious over the criticism as he said that he was dumbstruck to see so much hypocrisy in the world and did not want to add to it.
He was happy with his team despite all the problems that were faced by them earlier and while praising his team, he said that everyone worked very well during the past two weeks. Stefano believes that this must have given his team the right impetus for the final part of the season.
Keeping in mind the situation the team is facing, Alonso has been at the top of his game since the past two races which gave him a total of 43 points including a win. Fernando has a total of 141 points that makes him 20 points behind the Championship leader Mark Webber, who has a total of 161 points. Alonso has quite a chance at winning the championship and expects a lot from his team.
He still has 4 competitors who are not that far though. Lewis Hamilton in 2nd place with 157 points; Sebastian Vettel in 3rd with 151 points, followed by Jenson Button with 147 points. This season is getting tougher with every passing race. With just 7 races remaining, the Spaniard hopes to snatch the title for the 3rd time. The season will have an exciting end to it and waiting for the Belgian Grand Prix is getting more difficult for the fans.
