Fernando Alonso: Felipe Massa going to be a great challenge in 2011 Formula 1 season
According to Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, his teammate Felipe Massa is going to be a great challenge for him which means that the Brazilian is going to be a challenger for the 2011 Formula 1 title as well since Fernando is expected to be one of the top running
drivers of the new season.
Massa went through a disastrous 2010 Formula 1 season after returning to the sport after more than half a year since the Brazilian went through a terrible near-fatal accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2009 as a result of which he had to miss the rest
of the 2009 season.
Nevertheless, Fernando believes that Felipe is going to be at the top of his game once again this year.
“Felipe is a great challenger for me. I don't think there are many drivers who are faster than him. After all, when he crossed the line in Brazil in 2008, he was the world champion for a few seconds, so he has to prove to no one how fast and talented he
is,” Alonso told the media.
Many critics believe that Fernando Alonso is going to be the top driver of the 2011 Formula 1 season but Ferrari’s technical director Aldo Costa stated that he wants to see Massa perform alongside Alonso this year in order to give Ferrari a much better result
as compared to the team’s 2011 run.
“I hope so, because we need two strong drivers. But we are only going to find out now that the races are starting,” Costa stated.
Other than that, Costa also defended the new tyre suppliers of the sport Pirelli who have been criticised by many drivers mainly because of the quick degradation of their respective compounds.
“Let's be frank, Pirelli only started work in August and in six months developed safe tyres,” he added.
Pirelli claims that they were asked by the FIA to create tyre compounds that degrade quicker than the Bridgestones of 2010 as the aspect of a race strategy was undermined in the 2010 Formula 1 season.
Nevertheless, the 2011 Formula 1 season is going to be very unpredictable mainly because of the reintroduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System and adjustable rear wings. It seems that evaluating anything about each team’s respective performance before
the season opening race that is expected to take place in Australia on March 27, 2011 is not going to be possible.
Fernando Alonso and Ferrari are aiming for nothing less than the titles this year and it is going to be interesting to see how they perform as compared to their rivals Red Bull Racing Team, McLaren and Mercedes GP.
