Fernando Alonso: Felipe Massa is one of the best teammates ever – Formula 1 news
Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has recently stated that his current teammate Felipe Massa is the one of the best teammates ever.
Alonso recently defended the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel as well from some raging criticism.
Massa on the other hand is being highly criticised as he has not been able to perform up to the mark since his return to Formula 1 back in 2010 and now it is believed that he might even get replaced sometime soon despite the fact that he has a contract with Ferrari until the end of 2012.
“I do not have things easy with him (Massa), we are very close to each other. There is often only one tenth in it. He is one of the best team-mates I have had. We work well together even though we have quite different styles of driving,” he said.
Other than that, the Spaniard also defended the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher as he is being criticised as well for staying in Formula 1 despite the fact that he is 43 years old now and he has not been able to perform up to the mark since his return to the sport.
“For me he is and remains the best driver in Formula 1 history and deserves respect. His records will probably never be matched. He still loves to drive and I understand that, those who criticise him do not. I enjoy racing against him and I'm sure that if he had a competitive car he would be able to win races,” said the Spaniard.
Nevertheless, Alonso is going through a very tough 2011 Formula 1 season as his car is just not fast enough as compared to McLaren and Red Bull Racing team but still he has been able to score some pretty amazing results this year. As a result, he is currently in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings and is one of the top contenders for the title.
