Fernando Alonso: Ferrari in positive position after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they are in a reasonably good position after 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix even though they have a car which is quite uncompetitive as compared to the other rivals.
The Spaniard is currently standing at fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 43 points and he is only ten points behind Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who is leading the championship in the season so far.
Furthermore, it will be interesting to mention that despite the unfortunate remarks which were being expressed by the Scarlet team that they would struggle in the first few races of the season, Alonso managed to perform well in the first four races for which
deserves an appreciation.
He took an impressive victory at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia in the second GP in rainy conditions.
Moreover, he secured an impressive fifth place finish in the season opener after staring from 12th position in the grid while in the last two races he finished at 9th and 7th places.
After the end of first four Grands Prix of this season, Alonso said that they are in a positive position.
“It went a bit better than we feared and we managed to limit the damage,” Alonso said. “We had arrived here eight points down on the championship leader and we leave only two more points adrift. To finish this run of four races in this situation is positive,
even if there is no point in denying that we cannot be happy with it in general terms.”
Nevertheless, he said that they need to make significant preparations and the necessary developments for the races ahead in order to enhance the pace of their car to fight for the championship title.
“Now, it's clear we have to make a step forward, because we cannot always count on the failings of others,” said Alonso.
Besides, Stefano Domenicali, the team principal of Ferrari has said that they are planning to launch some major updates in the car in the European season of F1 with an aim to secure podium finishes.
In addition, the technical director, Pat Fry expects a strong tussle as all the teams will come prepared in Europe.
