Fernando Alonso: Ferrari under immense pressure – Formula 1 news
Fernando Alonso says that he feels pressure on Ferrari from the media after a lack of media attention towards the issues faced by Red Bull Racing at the end of the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya, Barcelona.
The Spaniard broke the silence to backup his team and said that they would definitely make improvements for the first Grand Prix after the disappointment being expressed by Pat Fry, the technical director of Ferrari that the team were not in a position to
fight for the podium in the first few races of the forthcoming season.
During the pre-season tests, Ferrari had been struggling with the issues of the new car’s aerodynamics. However, Alonso set the second fastest lap time of 1 minute 22.250 seconds on the last day of the final test after completing 115 laps while Sebastian
Vettel of Red Bull was the last driver with his best time of 1 minute 23.608 seconds on the timesheet at the end of the test and he completed just 23 laps.
Alonso said that the Italian press put an immense pressure on Ferrari and hardly mentioned any of the problems which were faced by the main contender at the end of the last test.
“We've all lived through many Formula 1 seasons and we all know very well that until we're in Australia we don't really know where we stand regarding to the others,” Alonso said at Ferrari's Maranello headquarters. “There's lots of talk and many ideas, but
nobody knows the truth. For example [Sunday] Red Bull, considered by many to be the front-runner, had only a few laps and the last time on the sheet: if something similar had happened to us, h**l would have broken loose, but here nobody really noticed it.”
Furthermore, Alonso said that little can be brought to reality from the performance of the teams during the tests while he provided a reminder when they were on fifth position at the end of the test at Barcelona two years ago and made a remarkable one-two
win at the Bahrain Grand Prix just after two weeks.
