Fernando Alonso: Ferrari will struggle to make Q3 at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that they will struggle to get through the third qualifying session of 2012 Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit this weekend.
Alonso took an amazing victory in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia on wet track. Moreover, he secured an impressive fifth place finish in the season opener at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after starting from 12th place in
the grid.
However, the Spaniard said that he is not expecting any surprises in the next race from team as they still need to do a lot of work in order to improve their performance in the normal race conditions. He also said that they will face difficulties in the
qualifying at Shanghai while he said that they hope to have a good start.
“Nothing has changed since Malaysia and so I expect a tough weekend,” Alonso said. “There will be no big surprises, as although the car has some small improvements, there is nothing big coming for this race. I expect this is the same situation with the other
teams, which is why I feel the general picture will be the same as at the last two races. This means we will struggle to get through into Q3 on Saturday and then on Sunday, we will be hoping to get a good start and then do a good job of tyre management.”
Furthermore, he said that he will need some luck so as to earn a competitive result in the Chinese GP. In addition, he advised that another race hit by the rain will not give an assurance of some good results in future.
It will be important to note that Alonso’ teammate Felipe Massa has not been able to secure even a single point in the championship so far.
Moreover, there have been many speculations regarding the replacement of the Brazilian driver with Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari who secured an incredible second podium finish at Sepang.
Nonetheless, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they are ready to provide Massa with everything which he will need to improve his performance in the races ahead.
