Fernando Alonso: Ferrari’s progress in qualifying round of British GP was genuine – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that the team’s progress in the qualifying round of the British Grand Prix was genuine.
Alonso added that he is quite happy with the team’s qualifying results. The Spaniard had a very close fight with Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel for a few minutes in Q3. Alonso was struggling for his top place for the Sunday’s race, but Vettel was much faster
than him. After making a lot of struggle towards the end, the current world champion beat Alonso and finished his qualifying run behind teammate Mark Webber.
Alonso was 0.117 seconds off the pace of Webber and successfully secured his third place for the British Grand Prix ahead of teammate Felipe Massa, who finished his run at the fourth place in the qualifying round.
After the qualifying session, the Ferrari driver told the media he had a very tough time in Q3, but it was the best qualifying session for him in the 2011 Formula 1 season so far. In addition, he said that the whole team did a fantastic job in the Qualifiers.
The 29-year-old driver said, “We have exhausts, diffuser and all these talks - we repeat 100 times... We all lose performance with the new rules and we all lose more or less the same performance, maybe from three tenths to five tenths.”
He went on to add, “For the rules here, as I said we just adapt to whatever rule is written, and for sure some stability is welcome to have the same rules for the whole season or whatever, to have less confusion for the fans. As I said, I think we need to
think a little bit of the fans less talk about things that don't happen on the circuit.”
The Ferrari team was happy with their current progress in the ongoing season. Alonso admitted that his car’s pace was good during the qualifying session and that it played a supportive role for him.
After a successful qualifying round at the Silverstone racetrack, Alonso is hoping for his race victory in the British Grand Prix. Let’s see how well he manages his race on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Silverstone circuit.
